Let the Sun Shine

Hot days

The sun shines

The grass dies

And then

Gray days

Clouds hang low

More rain

And then

The sun shines

The grass grows

Now we mow

Repeat

This is summer

It seems that it is either feast or famine.  We lamented the long weeks with no rain while we watched the grass dry up.  We sweltered beneath triple digit heat indices.  Then came August and the temperatures and the rain were once again moderate.  The grass greened up, we mowed.

Next we got a new garage door for my parents' house which exposed new (or old) problems with the 50+ year old structure.  The door became the secondary issue and much work was involved before we had a functioning door.  The riding mower was safely installed behind that door.  Of course this when the rains moved in and every afternoon or evening - more rain.  You know what that means.  Thankfully, the door is now functional.  Let the sun shine!

Katherine she got smashed

No, I mean she got crashed

Her car that is

I hope it's not trashed

She got smacked from behind

Were they out of their mind

I bet for this screw-up

They'll surely be fined

She came to a halt

From the slamming assault

At the side of the road

It wasn't her fault

Now her neck's in a twist

And her friends did insist

That to the doctor she go

And she did as they wished

With pills he did stuff her

No pain will she suffer

At home she must stay

Until she is tougher

Stealing Away

Beneath the midnight desert sky

On his camel he did ride

Away to see his lady love

Beneath the silvery moon above

He went to sweep her off her feet

But her daddy he did meet

Because of this lovely damsel

He nevermore will ride his camel

You see the gal that he did seek

Was the daughter of a Sheik

She bid her daddy leave him be

Instead he hung him for all to see

The princess cried for days on end

Knowing her heart would never mend

How could her daddy be so cruel

She longed to escape his rule

Then one night to her surprise

She could not believe her eyes

Stood the man for whom she cried

The man she knew had surely died

The noose had slipped and he was free

He owed that to a friend you see

Who was handy with his knife

And owed this man his very life

Now the princess bride to be

Hopped on his camel and they did flee

Happy now with her intended

This is how the story ended

Cheese, cheese, beautiful cheese

Provolone, Swiss and Edam

Colby, Jack and Muenster, too

You just can't beat 'em

A plate of Havarti, creamy and fine
So lovely with a glass of wine

For my pizza I gotta say
Mozzarella makes my day

Gouda, oh Gouda, smokey or plain

Drives my Quesadillas insane

Mac and cheese down on the farm
With lots of Cheddar and a little Parm

What more can I say about this food prepared from the pressed curd of milk?  More cheese, please!

The voices are silent
Their silence brings
A different kind of agony
No chaos or anger
Only confusion and sadness

The voices are silent
They were my enemies
And strangely my friends
Their silence brings
Truth and despair

There is no freedom
Even with the silence
There is no escaping
Where they made me go
What they made me know

With or without them
I have no self
No peace, only pain
No joy, only misery
No life

Sophie on the edge

Position precarious

Prepare for landing

Post Turkey Day Blues

Mall of America

My paper is blank

And my brain's turned to mush

Is it the turkey I thank

Or the holiday rush

Nary a greeting

Nor squeal of delight

So it's off to the store

In search of great deals

Through every door

I burst with great zeal

Then I stop and I stare

In total dismay

At the items on shelves

In complete disarray

What are they thinking

I thought to myself

The lights are all blinking

But I don't see an elf

So homeward I head
With my parcels in tow
My feet are like lead
And I'm moving slow
