Or Else

It is day 15 of the 30 minus 2 days of writing hosted by Nicky and Mike of We Work For Cheese.  Today's prompt is "Or Else".  Visit Nicky's post to see what else is going on.  This is also posted for Friday Flash 55.

We had been warned over and over that we should straighten up or else, but those were just words.

So the moment that glass broke, our fate was sealed.  Mother Superior rapped her ruler on the desk as we stood silent before her.

I guess now we will find out just what "or else" meant.

The Waiting

I sit and wait.  The waiting becomes unbearable.  I wonder will my suffering never end?  Suddenly I hear a deep rumbling growl.  Startled, I look around...nothing.  Tick, tick, tick.  I hear the clock slowly, painfully clicking off the seconds one by one.  Just when I think I can't take another minute - Ding!  Pizza!

Crooked Words

Follow me back in time to the far away land of the wrinkled rhyme where the words were all crooked and walked with a limp.  Some letters were tattered and others torn.  Of better days they did now mourn. They were all a craggy lot who lived in a place that time had forgot.

A Sticky Situation

Along the winding path and into the dense foliage walked the boy following the yips of a puppy.  He'd always wanted a puppy.

He found him trapped in a briar patch, whimpering as the thorns stabbed his tender nose.

As the boy freed the wriggling mass, the puppy jumped up and down and licked his face.

Written for the Gman of Friday Flash 55 fame, as he recovers from a serious illness. We look forward to his return.

Runaway Muse

When my muse up and decides to take a trip, probably to some lush tropical island, she does me a favor.  She leaves me with exactly 55 words with which to create my next post.  The problem is she doesn't tell me which 55 words.  That's something I have to figure out on my own.

Spring: Friend or Foe?

The flowers are blooming, and the trees are budding.  Mother Nature decorates with brilliant colors and sprouts tender leaves.  Dandelions dot the landscape like yellow stars in a sky of green.

Noses are sneezing and sniffling; eyes water and foreheads wrinkle in pain.  Spring is praised for it's beauty and cursed for it's allergy-inducing pollens.

A Lesson in Patience

The mama cat sat staring into the weeds at the edge of the farm.  Only the tip of her tail moved.  "Patience is a virtue", she tells her litter, as they watch her.

Suddenly she pounces into the weeds and turns back with a plump field mouse.  Our patience has been rewarded.  We have dinner."

Looks like there's no dinner for you guys!

The Door

Before her stands a mysterious door.  Though afraid, she finds herself drawn to it.  She has a key.  The lock turns; she crosses the threshold.  She needn't have been frightened.  This is her dream come true.  A world of merry-go-rounds and games, hot dogs and popcorn, cotton candy and soda fountains.  It was...a carnival.

Written for Friday Flash 55, this was inspired by an episode of the "The Ghost Whisperer", where a door suddenly appears in the middle of the street.

The Golden Rule

The Lego store in the Mall of America
From the Golden Rule to the modern catch phrase "what goes around, comes around", the lesson is the same, and that was the lesson shared once between two kindergarteners.  Alex knew Bobby didn't have many toys, and offered to let him play with his new Lego set.  Both boys felt better about themselves after that.

What If?

The sun stopped shining?
It would get cold and dark, and we'd all die.

It never rained again and our water sources dried up?
We'd have no food or water, and we'd all die.

You won the lottery?
It wouldn't save you if there were no sun or water.  Be thankful for what you have.

For clarification,  I am not against the lottery, but know that money doesn't fix everything either.

Gray Days

Once upon a time in the land of trolls, unicorns were revered, and the brilliant blaze of the morning sky meant safe passage.  Gray days were to be feared for that is when the trolls came out of their hidden lairs beneath the bridges. Woe unto anyone who dared venture forth on a gray day.

Secrets

Through the door walked a big little boy wearing a ball cap, torn jeans and dirty tennis shoes.  The door keeps his secrets locked deep within where no one will know his shame or his sin.  His T-Shirt is smeared with his blood and his tears.  "Why did I have to send that stupid text?"

All About 60 (in 55 words)

There are 60 months in 5 years.
There are 60 inches in 5 feet.
There are 60 minutes in an hour.
There are 60 seconds in a minute.
60 years - known as the diamond wedding anniversary.
A mile is 5,280 feet and is divisible by 60.
60 years is also known as three score.
Zero to 60 is an automotive standard of performance.
Gone in 60 seconds.

The Wedding Planner Blues

First Chelsea changes her theme to chocolate – chocolate cake, chocolate martinis, and even coordinating dark and milk chocolate outfits. Then JoAnn moves her ceremony from inside to outside…in November. Now what was she thinking? Finally, Melanie’s maid of honor just broke up with the best man. I bet you can see where that is heading.

Disclaimer:  I am not a wedding planner and this is totally fictional.

A Wine Weekend

Ten people in five cars visit seven wineries in three days.

Rain, fog, misty clouds hung low made for slow go round and round the mountain.

A blast that passed too fast.

Good food set the mood for our eclectic brood.

Good friends and good wine equals good times.

Cheers to all wine lovers everywhere.

Moving Day

Amber sat down hard upon the steps, still hot from the afternoon sun. She thrust her chin into her hand, trying hard not to cry. Callie was leaving tomorrow. It was totally unfair. Her lower lip trembled as the tears started to fall. At ten the whole world ends when your best friend moves away.

Signs of the Season

This little leaf caught on the remnants of a spider web, danced for me in the breeze.

The Tulip Poplar is the first to release her leaves.

Pretty red Dogwood seeds will feed the birds this winter.

Sunlight plays on these bushes turning them golden.

Mother Nature highlighted these leaves on an otherwise green tree.

The End is Near

Summer's vicious heat
Now becomes a gentle warmth
I always feel a little sad at its passing
It's like saying good-bye to a friend
After a too-short visit
I want to hold its hand a little longer
To walk together a little further
Crickets sing in the light of day
As Summer slowly fades away

Best Friends

Frank and Neil toss their cans into the barrel and turn in.  Tomorrow's a big day - both are entered in a bass fishing tournament.

Best of friends, each secretly hopes to take the prize.  Come morning, however, Neil's boat stalls.  Rules state one contestant per boat.  Frank offers Neil his boat.  Thanks...but I can't.
