Summer's vicious heat
Now becomes a gentle warmth
I always feel a little sad at its passing
It's like saying good-bye to a friend
After a too-short visit
I want to hold its hand a little longer
To walk together a little further
Crickets sing in the light of day
As Summer slowly fades away
As Summer slowly fades away
Written for Friday Flash 55.
Hi Linda .. seems to describe perfectly your blistering summer .. but like you I feel sad as the nights draw in and the cold will trickle down from the great north. It is gorgeous this Indian Summer time .. love the Friday Flash 55. Great - Hilary
ReplyDeleteLinda...
ReplyDeleteI think Summer ain't hit the door yet. In Michigan it's gonna be 95 today..Grrrrrrrr
Loved your Pic and how you tied it in.
Excellent 55 My Friend
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
Hi Hilary, even though it is supposed to be 92 here today, I can see it waning. The crickets singing in the day time, and the long shadows in the evening are sure indicators.
ReplyDeleteG-Man, thanks for checking in. It's still hot here, too, but you can feel the change in the air, and hear and see the signs.
This was a "summer that never came" year in the PNW. We drift to the next season without having had a chance to grasp our hands on the last.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, but I won't be sad to say goodbye to the heat!
ReplyDeletetoime to end Sumner
ReplyDeleteand welcome Fall.
Well done.
We are expecting a warm 72 today. That's fine for me! I don't like heat, but Autumn always makes me very melancholy.
ReplyDeleteI remember those days when I lived in Canada.
ReplyDeleteDown here I pray for summer to soon fly the coop! :)
Beautiful images in this.
xo
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about the passing of summer too
ReplyDeleteLovely... This is the second summer in a row that we didn't experience "vicious heat" in my little corner of California. In fact, most mornings started out overcast. September usually brings a blast of heat though so we shall see. Regardless, the summer months have passed by way too quickly. Such is life these days...
ReplyDeleteMonkey Man- I've seen years when I thought summer wasn't coming. It was depressing for it to still be wet and chilly in June.
ReplyDeleteMama Zen- I felt that way a while back when it was so beastly hot, but I still feel sad to see it go.
The Cello Strings- Fall is nice, and the weather fair. Still I like summer, just not so hot and humid as this summer.
Linda- Sounds nice. Can I join you?
Jannie- It's still quite warm here. Hot, actually. But I can see and hear the changes that say fall is coming.
Anji- How are your summers?
Jayne- "Regardless, the summer months have passed by way too quickly. Such is life these days..."
Amen to that!
Lovely thoughts. We had a summer like Monkey Man's here in U.K.
ReplyDeleteIf you're sad about summer ending, you must not live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteWell, Michigan usually only has about three weeks of true summer (LOL) but here in NC, we are still livin' it...
ReplyDeleteNice, sweet 55.
Doctor FTSE- Ours was really hot, but not nearly so bad as many other places.
ReplyDeleteElliot MacLeod-Michael - No, I live in NC, and at times I longed for cooler, less humid weather. But no matter what, there is still a feeling of loss when summer ends.
Margaret- True, but we are catching a break in the heat for a few days.
I'm sad to say goodbye to summer!
