My husband's brother and family live in a small town a few miles from us. Their property backs up to a large park, so this is a normal sight in their yard.
When we were leaving a few nights ago, there were two deer in the yard just past the driveway, two more in the yard across the street, and we spotted several more as we left the neighborhood.
The deer roam free
In our town
Beware the deer
At sundown
When darkness falls
And shadows flee
In our town
The deer roam free
Fortunately, they also come out during the afternoons for photo ops. Hubby got this with his cell phone. The deer rarely make an appearance like this when I'm there with my camera.
What a wonderful photo and poem. Just beautiful! When we were at the Navajo Nation's Capital, Window Rock, the cattle had made a jail break from somewhere and there were about 100 of them just wandering through the town. All traffic came to a halt to let them cross the streets and roads. What a site!
ReplyDeleteLinda- Thank you! I imagine a hundred or so cows roaming the streets was indeed something to see. Not every day you need to have a roundup in the city.
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely! We rarely see deer in the UK so it's a joy when we do :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a thing to be seeing deer just outside your house. Are they kept or wild?
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous they are! Is the poem a Linda original? It's lovely.
ReplyDeleteThere are deer everywhere in my area. Just last week, I opened my front door in the morning to let Dixie out and there was a gorgeous big buck walking right past my porch. I never tire of looking at these beautiful creatures.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda .. wild animals are such a delight - it's so wonderful we now realise their importance in this earth's life .. as we are part of that.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots .. and lucky brother-in-law and family to have them on their doorstep ..
Love your poem too .. freedom .. that's the thing ... cheers Hilary
Babs- They are quite the sight, glad you enjoyed them.
ReplyDeleteFriko- They are wild deer at my brother-in-law's house. There are lots of woods behind their house.
Nicky- Thank you, and yes indeed it is an original.
Jayne- They are gorgeous. As areas get built up it brings them closer to people. When there were more wooded areas, we rarely ever saw deer. Even with the woods near us we've only seen deer in our yard twice in 25 years, and both time in the last 2 years.
Hilary- They are lucky to have not only deer, but owls (heard one last night) and lots of other night critters. The frogs this spring were amazing.
Most excellent photo & poem!
ReplyDeleteMeleah- Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteLinda,
ReplyDeleteI loved reading the poem and the explanation. That would nice to see deer in the backyard:~)
It is scary at night as they tend to understand about cars and roads.
Where my sister lives there are tons of wild deer. They are so beautiful to watch when they run...such grace in motion:~)
Sara, it is cool to see deer in yards, but sad, too, that it is not their natural habitat and they are being forced out into neighborhoods and streets.
