Quote of the Week

is to let it rain. - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Spring 2000 - November 28, 2014
As some of you may know, we said good-bye to Dood on Friday.  We knew there was something wrong, but had no idea when we went to the vet Friday morning that would be our last moments with him.  To say that it was heartbreaking would be an understatement for me, having only lost Rosie a year ago.  Dood was really a comfort this past year, and we grew closer than ever.

If you're wondering what this has to do with the quote, it's simple.  For me the rain symbolizes tears, and sometimes the best way to deal with loss is to rain when you need to.

Love ya buddy!

  2. Hi Linda .. what a lovely photo of Dood and I'm sure you're 'raining' lots at the moment .. especially as his going was so unexpected .. my thoughts and animals really endear themselves into our hearts don't they ... all the best as you adjust - Hilary

  3. Hilary, thank you. He definitely had a snug spot in my heart. There have been lots of showers and I'm sure there are more in the forecast.

  4. Oh, Linda!!! So short a time since losing Rosie and now Dood. And what a handsome guy he was! I am so so sorry. Dood was blessed to have your family as his family. And that quote couldn't be more apt...but you're awesome at choosing just the right words. I know that emptiness well...

    1. Kim, he was handsome and so very sweet. I think we were the ones most blessed by his presence. Although what he wanted most in the world was to live with us, and when he lived outside (his first 7 years) he couldn't understand why we couldn't come live outside with him. He did enjoy life with us after we moved him inside. We have all lost loved ones, both furry and otherwise, and I agree about the emptiness, it can be overwhelming.

  5. What a beautiful picture of Dood. However, just looking at it makes me cry. I know how difficult it's been losing Dood along with the loss of Rosie. The quote is true and I agree with Talon about you "choosing just the right words."

Be good to yourself and take time to grieve. I know you and you will get through this rain:~)

    1. Sara, I thought it was a good picture, and since he was black and white, that seemed fitting for this memorial picture. Even with Sophie here, it is still very lonely during the day. I miss my nighttime routine with Dood, and right now it seems like no cat will ever live up to Rosie or Dood.

Sometimes it seems like holidays are magnets for bad things.

I wish I could rain - I wasn't finished. I'm sure there will always be showers now and then, though.
