Quote of the Week

On particularly rough days when I'm sure I can't endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100%...and that's pretty good.
- Unknown.

You've all heard the expression about hindsight being 20/20.  That usually refers to something that you should (or shouldn't) have done.  Our old friends shoulda, coulda, woulda, and if only gather around, often making us look back with regret.

Here's a way that hindsight can make us feel better instead of longing for a do-over.

For example, you're having a bad day, the boss yelled at you, someone ate your chicken sandwich and you just lost your last dollar in the vending machine.  Or, your sitter called at the last minute to cancel because she has the flu and she sat for your kids yesterday.

Whatever the situation, you will get through it.  Why? Because you always do, and when you look back on the incidents or issues that caused such distress at the time, you see two things.  First, you are here.  You got through it. And second, it was not nearly as bad as it seemed, or maybe not as bad as it could have been.

Hindsight can provide a little insight into how your next jog in the road will turn out.

  1. If something nasty is about to happen I remind myself that it will soon be this time next week. We're all good at steamrolling through.

    1. Hi, Anji, I do exactly the same thing. I think to my self that a particular point in time whatever it was will be over, and I can get through it. Life goes on, right? Thanks for visiting!

  2. Hi Linda - just put that first step out there and keep on walking on ... just sometimes we don't need to prevaricate and then those times won't happen - others will ... but some we can prevent ...

    Cheers Hilary

    1. We make it though things we never thought we could endure. Like Anji said, just think about next week (or tomorrow) at this time, it will be history.

    1. Yes, Jayne, there is always wine. It doesn't make things go away, but we can smile more easily.

  4. This is great timing for me as I've a bit of a health scare, which can knock me backwards and make me forgot, I have had them before and gotten through them -- which is why this post is particular helpful to me today. I thank you for it. I also liked injaynesworld's comment, as well.

    1. Sara, we always manage to get through the rough times with fewer scratches then we anticipate. Jayne's comment was particularly appropriate, and I do exactly what Anji does which helps a lot, too. I'll write you soon to see what's going on. Feel better, OK?

  5. That is such an amazing quote and one that I will pull out of my back pocket when the next (inevitable) rough patch comes, Linda.

    1. Thanks Kim, I'm glad you find it helpful and, hopefully, uplifting too. It does make us stop and think about how things aren't usually as bad as they seemed up front.
