Quote of the Week

I tell you this, and I tell you plain:
What you have done, you will do again;
You will bite your tongue, careful or not, Upon the already-bitten spot.
- Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

Mignon was an American journalist and author, and also worked on both Vogue and Glamour magazines.  She wrote two volumes of the Neurotic's Notebook, and is often quoted from them.  The first was written in 1960.  That was a good year....I must read that book!

I found this under the category of "How True", and true it is.  Over and over again until you'd rather risk starvation than put anything else in your mouth.

So, has anyone out there NOT done this?

  2. This is wonderful. My grandmother's name was Mignon. You don't often find people named so. Now I have to read more of her work.

  3. Babs - Yes! There is nothing bigger than the spot where you bit yourself chewing.

Meleah- Such an event is usually followed by pounding on the table.

Jayne- I thought it was an unusual name...pretty though. Definitely thinking I should read her work.

  4. Why do I do that?

I don't want to do that.

  9. She was a smart one, that Mignon. I wouldn't mind reading more of her work too. Nice find, Linda!

  10. Timothy- It is truely inevitable.

Alexandra- Happened to me just last night. No apologies needed. I'm working to get back into things, too. It has been a lazy summer-blogging wise, busy otherwise.

Sara- It usually happens when you are enjoying something really good. We are all well here, and the weather is cooling off. Not that we had a really hot summer - the humidity was worse than the heat.

Cheryl- And at the worst times, too.

Hilary- Sometimes it does take a while, what with all the rebiting.

Nicky- Yes she was. I looked up the book on Amazon. Quite pricey for used copies as it is out of print.
