Quote of the Week

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.
  - Sir Winston Churchill

That being an apt statement in the days of Churchill, just imagine with today's technology how quickly lies and half truths can make their way into the minds and lives of millions of people.

Thanks to the vast media of today, misinformation can circle the globe and be acted upon before the truth of the situation has begun to be sorted out.  As with Newton's law of physics which states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction, actions without all the facts can have unintended consequences.

  1. I have never heard that quote. Isn't that the truth...especially in our world today. Nothing excites the media like a half-truth.

  3. How true! And it seems like the number of reputable news agencies are getting smaller and smaller by the second.

  5. First of all, I laughed out loud at that quote. It's a great one.

And your write-up about is so accurate...it's scary today how fast information flies, without taking the time to be sure it's accurate.

I actually dislike the way home-made videos have played such a big role in news stories. It's great if the video is really accurate, but they are usually just pictures...where's the back story? I hate to think what happens to people because someone filmed them in a bad moment and then put it up on YouTube.

    Good thinking material, Linda:~)

  6. Cheryl- The media does love a good frenzy no matter the truth.

Hilary- It spreads like wild fire.

    Nicky- I totally agree.

Talon- Unfortunately. Technology is good, but the users can get out of control.

Sara- True, but sometimes the homemade videos are the only insight into what really happened as the one filming was actually there. Maybe could help getting to the real story. Just my thoughts.
