It is day 18 of the 30 minus 2 days of writing hosted by Nicky and Mike of We Work For Cheese. Today's prompt is "Home at Last". Visit Nicky's post for more homeward bound entries.
Home is all the things you know by name: a family of dishes, books, and clothes that waits for you to choose among them every day. We're ready for you is what the chorus in your house sings. Your fingerprints are grinning on their faces.- Michael J. Rosen
For most of us, no matter how grand the vacation, or exotic the location, there really is no place like home.
About 10 years ago, we were on our way home from our annual Florida vacation. We left the beach a little before 9 a.m., and after a few stops, crossed the Savannah River just before 5:00. Dinner was ribs and oysters at a lakefront restaurant, then we continued driving until 10 p.m. We stopped for the night in Columbia, SC, about 3 hours from home. Two bad hotel rooms later, we were on the road again. At 2 a.m. we were home at last!
Travel can really be an adventure can't it. Some trips are memorable and some we'd just as soon forget.
ReplyDeleteI have some bad hotel experiences in S.C. as well!
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit Florida. I have only been there once.
ReplyDeleteThat must've been some really bad hotel rooms. :)
ReplyDeleteI often find that when I come back from a trip, I'm a lot more creative than I normally am. I find myself writing a lot, thinking stuff through and just generally enjoying the newness of being home again.
This sounds like a lovely pilgrimage. I love to travel, but rarely return; there's always someplace new.
ReplyDeleteI agree that travel can be fun and exciting but getting home is always nice. There is nothing so inviting as being in your own place with your own stuff.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful image and, it is indeed nice to be home!
ReplyDeleteVery, very true! As much as I enjoy traveling, there is a sense of... relief...security...comfort, all of the above when you get home.
ReplyDeleteRibs and oysters... I have never seen those paired together... I bet that was AMAZING..... sigh!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a vacation in so long, I haven't had the pleasure of enjoying being home at last. Maybe someday soon, though.
ReplyDeleteNice post....

ReplyDeleteSometimes it takes a little adventure and some bad hotel stays to make you appreciate how good you've got it at home.
ReplyDeleteNo place like home...
ReplyDeleteThere truly is no place like home and nothing makes us appreciate that fact more than a bad hotel room!
ReplyDeleteI'm headed down to Florida in April. As much as I enjoy visiting there, I'm always so glad to get back home. Give me Upstate New York any day!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more! It is a huge comfort to know you always have a home to return to, no matter where you are in the world. Something I have come to appreciate very much as I am a frequent traveler.
ReplyDeleteLovely post!
"For most of us, no matter how grand the vacation, or exotic the location, there really is no place like home."
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!
I love getting home after a trip. Sleeping in my own bed, watching my saved programs and cuddling next to my favorite man and my cat:~)
ReplyDeleteNothing better than that!
