Quote of the Week

"It came without ribbons!  It came without tags!  It came without packages, boxes or bags!"... Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!  "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.  Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!
- Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Although a children's tale, it has a great lesson for people of all ages.  There is more to Christmas than boxes and bows.  Even the Grinch figured it out, and it is said "That the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day!"

  1. You know, I don't think I've ever seen it in its entirety. Maybe this year.

  2. I've watched the real, original, animated version, every single year, for as long as I can remember. and it never gets old. And I still love it, with my whole heart!

  3. I totally agree with Meleah. I watch it every year...both the original and the Jim Carrey version. They are both awesome.

  4. I love this story and you are so right. It does have a great lesson to it.

It reminds of something I did one Christmas. I was thirteen and based on some story I read, decided to have everyone in my family donate to their favorite charity instead of getting me a gift. I thought I would be very disappointed on the big day, but I wasn't.

It was amazing. I had all these letters from places people had donated to and it was so much better because it lasted longer than tearing open presents.

Granted, I didn't do it again the next year:~) but somehow your Grinchy message reminded of the time my own heart grew bigger and fuller:~) Thanks!

  5. Hilary- I watched a few times as a kid. It is a great life lesson.

Meleah- Good for you. We should always embrace our inner child.

Cheryl- I've only seen the animated version. I bet the Jim Carey version is funny!

Sara- We are doing the donation/charity thing this year. It helps others and reduces our "what to get for so-and-so" stress.

  6. So true and never more relevant! When I read stories of people macing each other for appliances, physically assaulting each other for stuffed animals, I always think of the Grinch and wonder when we'll finally "get" it!
