Quote of the Week

When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold.  They believe that when something's suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.  - Barbara Bloom

None of us make it through this life unscathed, so we wear our cracks with pride.  They are like a map of our life showing where we have been and how we got there.  We are indeed beautiful in spite of, or perhaps because of, our history.

  2. Meleah - I was thinking about you and Katherine when I chose this one because you both have been through a lot this year. We are all beautiful in our own ways.

  3. Hi Linda .. is there an artist out there who could give me some gold shading and brighten the images up .. perhaps gild my salt and pepper hair ... as long as the gold is in the roots and keeps coming back ...

Love the sentiment here .. wearing our cracks with pride - great thought - cheers Hilary

  4. As always, BEAUTIFUL.

I tell people I am proud of my "laugh lines" and my gray hair. I earned them. They are my own personal road map... not that I wouldn't get a little help from a surgeon if it was offered for free! ha ha!

  5. Now this has to be one of my favorite of the Quote series. I didn't know what you wrote about the Japanese...that's a wonderful idea!

You are so right about appreciating our cracks and wrinkles for what they have taught us and how they've helped us to grow.

Also, sorry I haven't been around lately. I hope to change this.

  6. Lovely sentiment, Linda. Especially since I think I'm more "gold" than skin! :-)

  7. WhHilary- I would like some gilding too.

Katherine- My father-in-law just called such things "mileage".

Sara- Whether we have laugh lines, crows feet or chinks in our armor, it is what has made us who we are.
