Quote of the Week

Do not go where the path may lead,
go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
 - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I think this is saying that instead of blindly following the figurative road before us, we should make our own way through life.  We should leave something along the way to show others that the best path may be no path at all
.

  1. Emerson was a pretty smart guy. I've been known to leave the path now and again, in order to forge my own. I guess most of us do, at some time or another.

  2. Hi Frank, thanks for stopping by today. It is good to leave the beaten path now and then. You may not know where you're going, but you'll know when you get there.

  3. I don't mind leaving the beaten path now and then, but I'm sending Frank on ahead to clear the spider webs for me. ;)

  5. Hilary- I don't blame you - I hate walking through a spider web.

Nicky- Thanks! It's good to find our own way sometimes.

  6. My husband Alex doesn't believe in paths. He always takes what he calls "Navajo shortcuts" which means whatever whim that catches him, he follows.

  10. Linda- Sometimes following a whim is just what the Dr. ordered.

Talon- That was the last thing I expected to see that day. That river was badly flooded at the time. I included a link to the video in previous comment. I got my responses out of order.

  11. GOOD advice. I often go along the path that is already made, afraid I'll get someone mad! I need to learn to make my OWN path!

  14. Linda,

Today, I feel like most of my life has been spent clambering through unbeaten paths.

In some ways, Emerson might be right. Then again, there are times when a nice 4-lane superhighway would be mighty comforting. Certainly, it would lessen the scratches and banged knees from trying to make my way:~)

  15. Sara, today I wish for you the ease and comfort of the superhighway, and the knowledge and wisdom of journey.
