Happiness does not depend on outward circumstances, but on the state of the heart.
- J.C. Ryle
Instead of relying on others and what is going on in our lives for our happiness, we should look within ourselves. Therein lies the root of true happiness.
We do make our own joy!
ReplyDeleteWow, you have NO IDEA what that quote means to me. I feel like I always looked on the outside... it took a good while and a bad marriage to realize only I can make myself happy - you can't count on others - you have to count on you!
ReplyDeleteI find that the more I cultivate an attitude of gratitude, the happier I am.
ReplyDeleteLinda- That we do...or at least we should.
ReplyDeleteKatherine- That's true, but not always easy, when you think you should be more or do more or whatever.
Jayne- That is certainly a healthy attitude to have.
It is hard, though, not to get caught up in our circumstances. In about 10 hours I will start a week vacation, so I am hoping I will be able to find my zen again!
ReplyDeleteagree, love the quote.
ReplyDeleteNicky- Enjoy your vacation. I was away for a few days myself.
ReplyDeleteJingle- Thanks.
