A Miracle

Image source: Striking Photogrphy by Bo
The wildfire burned hot, and smoke filled the evening air.   Scores of firemen had been battling it for hours, when someone shouted "over here".  There in the bank of a nearly dry creek was a small cave.  Crouched inside was a boy and his dog.  It was a true miracle on that hot August night.

Written for Friday Flash 55.  While this is a work of fiction, devastating wildfires continue to burn in Arizona.  Let's keep these people in our thoughts and prayers, as well as those affected by the recent floods and tornadoes.

  5. Many a miracle we've seen throughout the tragic events; earthquakes, floods, coal mines, tornadoes and wildfires. Wish there were more happy endings like in your 55. Prayers said daily.

  6. I loved your 55, Linda. I imagine there might be just those sorts of miracles happening. We've had some serious fires here in Alberta - an entire town was burned to the ground. It's been a scary year for fires and tornados...thoughts and prayers with all of those who have to deal with these dangerous conditions.

  8. Brian- Hats off to your grandfather! Miracles do happen.

G-Man- I love the happy endings, too.

Helen- Thanks. Wildfires are scary and can happen about anywhere.

    Monkey Man- And lucky!

Jannie- Thankfully, I've not been through any type of disaster. I can't imagine either, but I guess there is only one thing to do, and that is go forward.

Chef Kar- Miracles and happy endings are definitely life affirming.

Talon- Thank you! It has been quite a year, thus far, indeed. We've had floods, fires, tornadoes, and hurricanes, but are hit less frequently than some other places. I live in the central part of the state so hurricanes and floods are less of an issue. We did have some serious tornadoes back in April.

Steve Isaak- Thanks for visiting. I'm glad you enjoyed the miracle. Every life is precious.

Davina- Thanks. Good to see you! I hope they are able control/put out these fires soon. I love trees! It is heartbreaking to think of so many being burned, not to mention the homes and people suffering through this.

  10. Hi Linda .. always thought fires are one of the worst things - so utterly at the behest of the wind .. and devastatingly frightening ..

Good 55er though .. Anyone in range of fires - Arizona, Canada and even here in Dorset - probably set by kids .. not funny .. Hilary

  11. Nicky- That's sweet. Thank you so much!

Hilary- Fires are very scary, indeed, and can happen anywhere. We are less likely to experience a wildfire where we live, but accidents happen.
