Got Mulch?

Need something to do on a Saturday morning?  Go get the free mulch from the city.  We did!  The city offers free leaf mulch twice a year, in the spring and fall.  You take your truck and/or trailer and they load it for you.

6-foot truck bed

This mulch looks more like topsoil, but it's good stuff.

A new natural area

 Makes mowing easier!

A new look!
Part of Kevin's handiwork before he left - we just added more mulch.

I wish I had a picture of the trailer we used for the rest of the mulch.  It holds a full scoop.  For perspective, the truck has 1/2 scoop.  The next weekend we got another trailer load for a total of 2 1/2 scoops.

  1. Your gardens are looking gorgeous, Linda!

Our city does the same and it's a great thing!

  2. How lucky are you! Smart too. That looks more like compost to me, but who cares at that price!

  3. Talon- Thank you! The yard is looking much better.

Stafford- Yeah, free is great, and the leaves are extremely composted.

  4. Looking Good, Linda! And that stuff really does help keep the weeds at bay!

  5. Holy crow! Looking good over there!

  6. Wow. That's a lot of mulch:~)

Looks like you put it to good use. I love the stones around the tree...that's very pretty.

Is that the early-blooming plant or a left over one? What do you have planted under the tree? Hey, that could the title of a story. "What's under the tree?"

  7. Linda- Thank you! This is more like dirt so I'll still have to deal with some weeds. Roundup!

    meleah rebeccah- Thank you!

Sara- It is a lot, but we could have used twice as much. Not that I wanted to put out that much. The plant under the tree is a hosta that was already there. Kevin had put some leaves around the tree and arranged the stones before they left. Nice!

  8. I live on a lavender farm and after the oil is distilled from the buds, the leftover buds make great mulch.

  9. Ooh, I bet it smells good on your farm.
