Quote of the Week

Look not at the days gone by with a forlorn heart. They were simply the dots we can now connect with our present, to help us draw the outline of a beautiful tomorrow. - Dodinsky

It is now Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere, and with Spring comes renewal both in nature and humanity. With the onset of warmer weather, more daylight and the blossoming of the trees and flowers comes a sense of anticipation and rejuvenation. This is often accompanied by the occasional bout of Spring fever and/or allergies.

Today's quote reminds to look back, not with sadness, but with the knowledge that the past led to the present and both help us prepare for the future. Unlike the game we played as children where all the dots were numbered and everyone got from the beginning to the end along the same path, there are many different ways to get from where we've been to where we are going.

Let's pause for a moment of reflection and make the connections that will lead to our beautiful tomorrow.

  1. I like the idea of connection the dots. Glad you are one of my most important dots! Happy Spring. We are not quite there yet.

    1. Ashley, you are one of my most important dots, too. Spring will get there...it's on it's way.

  2. This quote takes a sad thought and makes it a helpful and important thought about the past.

    1. Looking back can be both sad and sweet, but either way it's part of both our present and our future.

  3. Thank you Linda, for a lovely quote. "Forlorn" is a perfect word for how I've been feeling today as I clear out my blog archives and cull old posts. I think if my dots were joined today, they'd be spiralling slowly, reluctantly towards my spring and my future, not going in any discernible straight line.

    1. Janice, I'm sorry if you are feeling a bit forlorn. Spring has arrived here, and is on it's way to those still feeling the bite of winter. Do you delete posts from your blog?

    2. I do. Posts that were of their time, that were full of links to blogs now dead, posts that were experiments in blogging, conversations with folk who turned out to be nothing more than exploiters of other bloggers, posts that added nothing of real value to the world or much of a window to mine. Sifting through, copying and filing comments, quotes, favourite bits - memories - is all very therapeutic but can also invite in melancholy. It's very focusing, too: because I go into cyberhibernation so often, I've become very aware that every post I write could be the one that's left suspended for months, years even. If I leave my blog for good, I want the archives and categories to be simple, organised, representative.

Thank you for caring, Linda. My forlorn days and phases don't last very long and I see them as a gift; I recognise them because they're such a contrast to how I normally engage with the world and I share them to encourage others to do the same, in safe spaces, as a way of working through them. Everyone I know cycles through all kinds of emotions; unfortunately, when we write about our lives honestly, the sad days and hard times get preserved in cyberspace.

  4. Loved this quote. It is very true. That was an interesting question to Janice. To be honest, I've never thought about deleting old posts purposely, but it might not be a bad idea...hmm. I'll have to think about this.

I hope all is well with you. I've been writing and so, I've been out visiting as much or getting posts up on a regular schedule. Such is life. But hopefully, I'll be back to regular schedule soon.

    1. I haven't deleted anything since I cleared out the early stuff from the first year that didn't fit in. I keep trying to get on a schedule then I get busy with real life and don't manage to stay ahead of things.

  5. Very beautiful!!!! I love that idea of the past and now - and especially using everything to make a better tomorrow. That is the way I am interpreting it because it really makes sense.

And spring... sigh..... the daffodils are blooming and guess what is happening this weekend when we are at the beach. Temps are going from 70 to 41 with wind making it even colder. ACK!

    1. Glad you are at the beach even with a chill coming. March is a fickle lady.
