Quote of the Week

The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see.
- Winston Churchill

View from the Ferris Wheel
The past and the future are irreversibly connected. This does not suggest that we live in the past, simply that understanding and acknowledging the past brings more clarity into the future.  The deeper you look into the past, the more you understand, and the more that you understand, the further you can see yourself going in the future.  Wisdom gained from the past equals wisdom for the future.

My earliest memory involved chocolate.  Fact...today I still like chocolate.

  1. Hi Linda .. Winston Churchill certainly had a way with words ... interesting quote ... I can think back to freedom of running around the garden with no worries! Cheers Hilary

    1. Hi Hilary, yes he did have a way with words...and wisdom. I ran around with no worries, too. What a time of innocence.

  2. That's a good explanation of that quote. I agree with Hilary. Churchill was a quote master! One of my earliest memories is crawling after our pet dog. From what I was told, she was very patient with me:~)

    1. Thanks Sara! I can just see you setting out after your dog. She must have been very sweet.

  3. I do like Sir Winston and his interesting sayings. An earliest memory is of me and my pet dog... and hiding in the bushes on the farm from my mom. I was about 3. My mom knew wherever I was the dog would be there too, so she'd call him. I think we were inseparable at the time.

    1. Brenda, like Sara, your earliest memory is of your pet. That is sweet. I didn't have a pet until I was about 5-6.

  4. This is fascinating. I actually have had to look back a lot recently to pull stories out for the kids as examples. They have been going through similar things I have gone through and (shock) have been asking for advice. Going back has helped THEM to go forward!

    1. Katherine, going back has helped them go forward, but it has also helped you too. As your children move forward, so do you. So glad they are asking for advice. I think that's a sign you've taught them well.

  5. Love chocolate! :) Yes, I look back sometimes if only to remind myself how far I've come. And there is nothing finer than sitting with good friends and family and reliving some past moments - even the embarrassing variety! Hope you have a lovely weekend, Linda.
