It is day 4 of the 30 minus 2 days of writing hosted by Nicky and Mike of We Work For Cheese. This is written for the prompt "Friendship". Check out the list on Nicky's post for more friendly posts.
"Why did you do all this for me?" he asked. "I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you."
"You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "That in itself is a tremendous thing."
― E.B. White, Charlotte's Web
The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend.
― Henry David Thoreau
Friendship is more about being than doing.
Very few people know this tidbit of trivia, but Charlotte's Web's author's initials "E.B." stood for "Extra Bacon".
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm stuck on that extra bacon thing.
ReplyDeleteI love the E.B. White quote...that is a tremendous thing.
ReplyDeleteLinda, it is perhaps THE most tremendous thing. Indigo
ReplyDeleteAll true!
ReplyDeletePearl
Mariann Simms- I had no idea. I love bacon, too, but Wilbur was special.
ReplyDeletenonamedufus- I can see where that could happen. ;)
Cheryl- Yes. Where would we be without it?
Indigo Roth- True friendships are truly tremendous. Too much of a tongue twister?
Wise words.
ReplyDeleteSmiling at the cat hug, Linda :)
ReplyDeleteSo true - being a friend is a wonderful thing. Having one is even more special.
Short and sweet and wonderfully true. I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never had any friends, so none of this makes any sense to me. And what's with the talking spider, anyway? That's just creepy, if you ask me.
ReplyDeletelife in the mom lane- Too bad they're not mine. Aren't quotes great!
ReplyDeleteTalon- They are the best of friends. Being and having - you nailed it!
Ziva- Thanks!
MikeWJ- You think a talking spider is creepy? And this coming from a guy with no face?
so very true. I love these quotes!
ReplyDeleteE.B. White got it right. Being a friend is a tremendous thing! Enough said!
ReplyDelete(But, Extra Bacon? Bwahahahaha!)
I really like that Henry David Thoreau quote.
ReplyDeleteTotally get the first one having been on the receiving end of so many kind gestures.
ReplyDeleteI read Charlotte's Web to my boys when they were little. We bawled our way through the last chapter. I love that book, and that quote. Nicely done, Linda.
ReplyDeletePerfect quotes, but the cats really drive the point home :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy both of those quotations very much. They're very touching.
ReplyDeleteI do have to say though, it's a lucky thing that Wilbur's friend didn't live by Thoreau's philosophy. There would have been a lot fewer custom-made spider webs, and a whole lot more bacon.
What a fantastic idea! This is my favorite for friendship!
ReplyDeleteMeleah- Friends rock!
ReplyDeletePaula- The Extra Bacon thing got me too.
P.J.- Yeah, me too.
laughingmom- The world is still full of wonderul people.
Nicky- Our teacher read that to us in the 4th grade. Loved it then and now.
Mike- They really do. They are best buds, and I count my cats among my best friends, too.
KZ- You have a point there.
Katherine- Thanks!
Excellent point and I loved the picture to illustrate it:~)
ReplyDeleteThat is so true! And probably why dogs, pets, are such great friends. They are simply there through it all. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute photo!
