Quote of the Week

George OrwellThe essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection. - George Orwell

It seems that today, as a society, we are always striving for perfection.  To be good is not good enough, to be better still falls short, and only by achieving perfection, can one truly be satisfied.  The problem with this is that true perfection does not exist in human nature; there is always another level to be reached.  While putting your all into seeking that elusive state of perfection, you neglect to pat yourself on the back for a job well done, and say "That's good enough".

  1. Do you know that in fine Persian carpets, there is always one flaw and it's put there intentionally. The rationale for this is that only god is perfect. Good enough is good!

  2. Hi Linda .. I love Linda's comment - so true isn't it .. I knew about the Persian carpets flaw ..but I'd forgotten the reason.

Do the best we can .. without stressing our lives! Cheers Hilary

  3. It's amazing how liberating it is to realize that it's our imperfections, and the imperfections of those around us, that make life beautiful. :)

  5. "That's good enough" is my daily motto! I don't have the time, patience or energy to worry about being "perfect" anymore.

  6. Mo always tells me that something I've done is great, and I always say "It could be better, but it'll do I suppose" I have learned to be a little less fussy about perfection now though.

  7. Linda,

I like this one; it's good for me at this time. I also really liked what Linda said about Persian carpets. That's a great story.

It's also true that perfection is not attainable, even if we like to think it is. Everything is always changing.

  8. Sara- Thanks. We all want to be or do the best we can, we just have to know when good is good enough. I like the story about the Persian carpets, too. I had not heard that.
