Quote of the Week

If you hear a voice within you say "you cannot paint," then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced. - Vincent Van Gogh

What is the first thing you think of when someone tells you that you can't do something?  You want to march right out and do it, right?.  This is one instance when you shouldn't listen to your inner voice either, so march right out there and prove yourself wrong!

  1. The inner voice of doubt can be much louder than any of those who say, "You can't." But once you've learned to silence your own doubts, you definitely achieve what's important to you. Loved this quote, Linda.

  2. There are so many people telling us what we can't do. We are the only ones who can tell ourselves what we CAN do.

  3. Anything that keeps you from trying something new should be challenged. Great quote!

  4. I love that quote-- funny I was meant to read this more than once this week - quite by accident I was looking up some art pieces on the general web and this quote among many stood out, and now I am delighted to see it posted on your blog, nice way to start the week.

    Merci,

  5. When I get it my head to do something that I really want to do I am as tenacious as a tick on a hound's butt. I don't really even consider any odds against my success and as a result I've pretty much succeeded at everything I've tried at least to some measure. People who tell you that you can't do something are usually the ones to scared to try for themselves.

  6. Hi Linda .. people assume they know us and what we can or can't do - humans seem to have this intrinsic belief that their thoughts will be our thoughts .. so as you say go do, and prove yourself right and everyone wrong ..

    Do it!! Cheers .. Hilary

  7. Talon- However, self doubts can be some of the hardest to silence.

Linda- Yes, we can and must encourage ourselves to be and all that we can.

    Mama Zen- Thanks!

bettyl- Sometims our inner voice doesn't reflect a "can do" attitude.

joanny- It does say a lot that many of us need to hear.

Jayne- That's good sound reasoning and advice.

Hilary- Indeed, go forth and conquer.

  8. Linda,

Like minds think alike. My Thursday post fits this quote and your wonderful write up about it.

It is so true that we let doubt whisper too often in our ears, convincing us of what we can't do. It's the brave souls that glare back at doubt and say, "I can too and you can't stop me!"

Great quote. I really like this series of yours:~)

  9. Sara- I am glad you are enjoying my quotes, although I never thought about them as a series. I have noticed that they do seem to have a similar theme. As always, thanks for reading. Your comments always mean a lot.

  11. That's a good mentality. I generally give way to skepticism unfortunately, instead of stomping all over it like I probably should :)
