Quote of the Week

Tortelloni and garlic bread
One should eat to live, not live to eat.
- Cicero

Without nourishment we die, so we eat to sustain life.  Simple enough, right?  However, food brings pleasure to all of our senses, it connects us with people, and brings back memories.

While we shouldn't overindulge, to eat only to live deprives us of great joy.

  1. I love to cook and I love food. I definitely live to eat as well as eating to live.

  3. I think wonderful food is a great pleasure. Eating only to live sounds dreary to me. Yes, we could live on grapes, beans, beans and water, but what would we be missing? A lot!

  4. Anyone takes away my chocolate, there's gonna be trouble! ;)

It's true that over-indulgence isn't good, but I tend to think that a lack of indulgence just makes for a boring life.

    Thought-provoking quote, Linda!

  6. Hi Linda .. I like having good food and then there's days when we get extra special food .. but tasty food to me is essential .. so I guess I eat for pleasure and necessity! and enjoy each mouthful as I go ..

The best meals are usually with good conversation thrown in .. cheers Hilary

  7. I don't know how anyone can just eat to live. That's not really living. It's more like they're eating to exist!

  8. Hilary- Eating is one of life's greatest pleasures, so long as we don't overdo it.

Nicky- No, I agree, eating to exist is definitely not living!
