Quote of the Week

In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins - not by strength but by perseverance.  - H. Jackson Brown

What can this show us about ourselves?  Do we try to muscle our way through life only to fall short of our goals?  Or are we like the stream that endures and perseveres day in and day out, and ultimately succeeds?

  1. Neat quote. And very true. It's just knowing when not to give up - that's always the tricky bit.

  2. My son, at 43 is a full partner in a major law firm in California. When he was in law school, he was Editor of Law Review and graduated at the top of his class.

When people would comment about how smart he was, he would answer modestly, (but honestly), "I'm not smarter. I just work harder." Kind of the same thing!

  3. I have actually been sitting here contemplating those words.
I hate to admit it, but I think I muscle my way only to fall short...I think there is a lesson to be learned here.

  4. I loved the quote. I think sometimes I'm the rock and sometimes I'm the river.

Most of the time, I'm more like the river. I will stay and work at something until I feel it's complete.

    Thanks for sharing this:~)

  6. I do a bit of muscling and enduring as I travel through life, depending on the event and obstacles. But mainly try to be the water flowing through life adjusting and adapting to the terrain and adjusting the terrain as I can with my force. :)

  7. Talon- Thanks, and I agree, not everything is clear cut.

Linda- You must be quite proud of your son. Sounds like he worked hard to get where he is. Much better than having something handed to him.

Sandra- Thanks for the visit. I am glad you found it though provoking. Thanks for the follow, too!

Sara- I suppose that at times I've been more the rock. I can be stubborn. Things flow more smoothly when one is the stream.

Katherine- Thanks, I am glad you like this one. It does give one something to think about.

Don- The ups and downs of life has a lot of influence on which tack we take. True strength lies in not depending on your strength to accomplish your goals.
