More about me... if you really want to know...
I grew up in Winston-Salem, and never left. In fact, I've never lived more than 5 miles or so from my childhood home. Life was good growing up. Funny how we don't know that at the time. It is only after we have finished school, gotten a job and moved out on our own, that we realize just how good we had it.
Ours was a typical family of that era. Daddy worked and Mom quit to stay home with me. We lived about a half mile from my school, so she would drive me to school each morning and pick me up in the afternoon. Daddy was a truck driver, and in the early years he was away a lot, sometimes coming home after I was asleep and leaving again before I was up. Still, we were blessed to be together, just the three of us, thick as thieves, and the best of friends. I know a lot of people can't say that, which makes it an even greater blessing.
I eventually moved into an apartment to get a taste of being on my own, and then into another apartment in less than a year...something about best friends as roommates. Don't go there.
To shorten this story, I worked, I lived on my own for about 5 years, and I continued to grow up since growing up is not something that is finished at 18 or even 21. Like with most gals, dating was trial and error, and I had a few mismatches before finding my prince. We've been together now for more than 30 years.
Our family consists of us and our one remaining cat, Sophie, and yes, that is what we chose for ourselves. We have a niece who is 18, now at UNC-Chapel Hill (following in her brother's footsteps) and nephew who is continuing his studies at Princeton.
Life has its ups and downs and is occasionally frustrating, but mostly it's good, and beats the heck out of the alternative.
