A Swedish Beauty

From the Como Zoo Conservatory
 Petals of velvet
A delicate rosy hue
A lovely lady

Ups and Downs

This end up
Fragile easily broken
Handle with care
Insurance
There is none
Upside down
Inside out
Outside in
Shattered
Tattered
Ripped and torn
Hangs in shreds
In the wind
Bruised and shaken
And then
It stirs
Revived still alive
Rises again
The skies clear
The sun shines
Luck smiles
Once again
Life is good

Uncivil Conflict

Black and white
Blue and gray
A house divided
Falls into the fray

Red and white
Stripes of freedom
Pride of many
Rejected by some

Blue and gray
Many fall
A price to high
For one and all

Light turns to dark
Death and fear
Day upon day
Year after year

Blue and gray
Black and white
All remembered
Dark turns to light

Day Into Night

Day into night
Night into day
Watching each one
Fade away

Wrong versus right
Love's evil twin
Where there is hate
Nobody wins

Day into night
Night into day
Watching each one
Fade away

Fire and ice
Cleanses all
Deny ye now
The devil's call

Lightly Falling Snow

White Christmas 2010

Lightly falling snow
Dusts the ground like
Powdered sugar doughnuts
Leaving sweet traces
On little faces
Wrapped up in pretty colors
Bright blue mittens
And shiny red boots
Children's happy cries
And their mother's sighs
Remembering the days long ago
Of lightly falling snow

This was our White Christmas.  It began snowing at 11:15 Christmas morning.
We had 6 inches on the ground the morning after Christmas.  What a beautiful Christmas present.

A New Season

Around us leaves begin to fall
Paying heed to winter's call
Shades of gold and red and green
Play their parts in nature's scene.

Another season draws to a close
Captured elegantly in poem or prose
And puts a smile upon our face
As each new season we embrace

Morning Sky

Sunshine and raindrops
make prisms across the sky
Beautiful, fading, gone

The Lock and the Key

Said the lock to the key
Will you marry me
We'll live forever more
Here upon this weathered door
It's charming and quaint
With it's peeling paint

Said the key to the lock
It's the best on the block
It's sheltered in shade
So we'll have it made
You and me together
Forever

Nature's Ballet

Written for One Shot Wednesday

Leaves
Dry and crinkled with age
Swirling down
to dance across the lawn
like tiny ballerinas
