Quote of the Week

You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness.
- Jonathan Safran Foer

Rosie - November 3, 2013

I know this statement to be true.  Sometimes those we love most and who bring us the most happiness can also bring us the most sadness.  That they aren't always human doesn't matter, the love is still the same.  Isn't that worth it?

A lot has happened since my last post.  I put together this quote last Monday but couldn't bring myself to publish it.

Rosie and me
Early on Sunday morning, November 3, I said a tearful good-bye to Rosie, my constant companion for the last 16 years.

  1. Linda, I am so so sorry for your loss. Rosie was so beautiful and adored. And she knew she was loved. That's the most important thing. Having recently lost Riley, my heart truly knows the pain you feel.

  2. I am really sorry for your loss. Having lost several cats, I know exactly what you are going through, but that quote is so, so right. The happiness they bring us, over the years, is worth the sadness at the end.

    What a beauty Rosie was.

  3. Oh Linda, I am so so sorry. Love is love, whether it's human or feline. I know how hard it is to lose a furry friend. I had my Syd for nearly 20 years. Still get choked up thinking about him. Hugs to you, my friend.

  4. Talon- Thank you. I'm sorry for your loss, too. They become such a part of our lives, they are our family. But though theyt are gone, they live in our hearts always.

Babs- Thank you. Unfortunately it is a road we have been down before, but you're right, the happiness is definitely worth it. I wouldn't trade a minute with any of our cats.

Nicky- Thank you. No matter how long they are with us, it is never enough. We've said good-bye Charlie, Missy and Molly and now Rosie and I still get teary when I think about them. Rosie will always be "mama's boy".

  5. I just popped over from Talon's blog. I'm so sorry for your loss. We had two cats that both died, and and it's like losing a family member. We had them both for about 16 years and they died a few years back but I still miss them.

  8. Linda,

Sorry to be so late in leaving a comment on this post. I know this was a difficult one to put up.

Your words were beautiful and made me cry.

And the answer from me to your question is a definite YES.

    I'm thinking of you:~)
