Have I Got Holes in my Head?

Don't answer that!
How come it is when you wait until you have time to sit and write down all the thoughts rolling around in your head, they seem to have rolled right out.  It’s like my head has holes in it, and my thoughts and ideas just plop right through the holes.  That’s it – my head is a sieve.  Nope, that can’t be it – then everything would fall out.  I must have a flashing sign inside my head.  One that says “All good ideas must exit here”.

It’s a one way door like a turn style.  Oops, no can back up.  Sorry, let’s keep it moving.  Don’t want to create a bottle neck.

Then the lights are out and the door is locked.  A couple of the bolder ones pound on the door but the guard just yells “Go Away – She’s done thinking for today."

  1. Ahhh yes I can relate. I come up with great ideas just before I fall asleep....only to lose them the very next day. I think they roll out of my ears at night!

  4. Same here. If I don't write down my thoughts as soon as they pop into my head, I will totally forget what I was going to write/blog about by the time I get in front of my computer.

  5. Katherine- Ah, so that's how they get out! Solution - ear plugs!

Babs- I think we all do now and then. That's a picture of Rosie (my baby boy at 14).

Hilary- I think up lots of good things that never seem to make it to the keyboard. I have actually turned on the light and grabbed a pen & paper. Some of my best stuff comes late at night.

Meleah- I guess that happens to all of us sometimes.

  6. I used to stress about the great things (well, I thought they were great - lol) that would pop into my head at the most inconvenient times...and now I know that the really good bits will stick around and resurface. Sometimes they just need to float around on that stream of creativity for a little while, enjoying the trip and refusing to dock.

    Rosie is just gorgeous, Linda.

  7. Talon- Rosie says thank you! He is missing mama this week. We are enjoying lovely Pennsylvania and visiting friends. My best ideas come at odd times and especially late. Then there are the ones that sound good in my head but not so good once typed up. Oh well...

  8. You put it beautifully.

The children urged me to start a 'memory book' to write down the things and thoughts I had to remember, I could never find it in time...

I visit your blog when I’m on ExposeYourBlog!

  9. Linda,

Been there; felt that:~) There are times when I've been working online and things just start going, "dah, dah, dah, dah" in my mind. It's a clear indication to STOP.

This post also reminds me of the Farside cartoon where the little boy holds up his hand and says, "Teacher, may I be excused? My brain is full." I still giggle at that one.

Take it easy. Enjoy yourself. I think you're telling yourself to take some time off:~)

  10. Anji- Thank you. Sometimes those great ideas do just disappear. Same goes for memories.

Sara- I guess I could use a short reprieve, I forgot all about posting today. It has been busy. Sometimes I feel like my brain is full, too.

  11. You've got a big cat on your lap! My Smokey is 20 and still a big guy. I will have flashes of brilliance that fall right out of my head and bounce on the floor as they roll away. I hate it when that happens.

  12. Oh, I understand your frustration, Linda! But you know, I've found that even when I do take the time to write down my ideas, by the time I revisit them, they don't click like they first did. So maybe you're saving pen and paper :)

  13. Linda- Rosie is sitting in his Daddy's lap, but yes, he's a big boy at 14. We need to be careful when those thoughts fall onto the floor - the cats might play with them.

Davina- This was one of those seat of my pants posts like Barbara was talking about. Life on the edge, you know.

  14. Hi Linda,

I love your title and know exactly what you're saying. Sometimes the ideas are easy to come by, but holding onto them becomes a chore. Let's hope all of the holes get sealed. :)

    Thank you for the mention.

  15. Barbara- Sometimes the best ideas are fleeting and we have to be paying attention so as not to miss them.

    You're welcome!

  16. AHa-ing...nodding...chuckling...

We're glad we're not alone in this! My best ideas usually pop and swirl in amongst the bath bubbles as I'm taking a bath... and by the time I get out and dried enough to jot them without wetting the paper.... poof.... they've disappeared down the drain along with the bubbles!

I have been thinking about it... why do you think? I don't think it has anything to do with forgetfulness (at least not usually)... but I wonder if there's a 'break' somewhere between the right 'creative' side of the brain and the left 'write this down' side.

Perhaps if we could somehow 'trick' our brain that we're still relaxing in right brain mode (like secretly have our pen and paper handy, or the wee recorder that's just within fingertip reach)... maybe we'd be able to catch more!

    You think?

    Enjoyed my visit thoroughly!

You grey kitty looks a lot like my Mr. Sullivan used to.
